Barnacle geese

Barnacle Geese alighting on Loch Indaal, Islay. Huge numbers of wildfowl from northern latitudes arrive on the island for the winter.

The geese roost in safety out on large sea lochs, feeding by day on Islay’s wet pastures. At odd times during the day they return to the shore to drink and bathe at locations where fresh water runs out onto the shore.
