Ospreys’ are now a common sight over much of the Eastern Highlands, since a few pairs started to breed in the 1950’s. In recent years they have also spread into the Western Highlands.

A young male Osprey on his first summer back in the Highlands after spending two years in West Africa. Despite not having yet found a mate and a breeding territory, he was very vociferous towards any other males invading his fishing space on the coast.

He arrived on the post with a half eaten sea trout, so large that it took a real effort over the course of an hour to consume the rest.
