Bilberry-bumblebee

A foraging queen Bilberry Bumblebee Bombus monticola taking advantage of the unseasonable warm weather during the latter half of April. This upland species emerged from winter hibernation earlier than usual, even making an appearance on flowering current in my garden. It was only in the last few days of the month that they were able forage on bilberry, their favoured nectar source.
