January 2008
Blue-Tit

In poor weather the garden bird feeders are popular with as may as fifty birds present at one time. The reflected light from the snow provided nice soft lighting for portraits of common garden species such as Blue tit, Chaffinch and Great Tit.

January is usually the wettest month of the year in the Western Highlands. The start of 2008 lived up to expectation. Even during quiet dry spells early in the month light levels were so low that there was little incentive to reach for my camera. Each successive Atlantic weather front brought snow to the high tops followed by rain a day or two later to wash it off again. Only towards the end of the month did snow lie for twenty-four hours to cover the ground down in the glen, giving an opportunity for a few pictures.
